Thank you for your question. You can't receive Social Security retirement benefits and disability benefits at the same time. The only exception is for an individual who took early retirement through Social Security (which is possible beginning at age 62), before being approved for disability benefits. The Social Security disability program exists to provide disability benefits to those who are unable to work as a result of their conditions and who are too young to draw their retirement benefits. In this sense, Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) can be thought of as a retirement benefit for those who are forced to retire early. If you are collecting SSDI disability benefits now, they will be converted to retirement benefits when you reach full retirement age.

Full retirement age is what age? And SSDI benefits will be converted then automatically by SS Adnm. or she has to initiate the process?

It depends on when a person was born. If it was 1937 or before, full retirement age is 65. Social security automatically converts those benefits, yes. Here is chart you can use to calculate when the full retirement age is: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pubs/ageincrease.htm
