Hello! Is there anything that makes this pain worse or better? Do you have any nausea? Do you have any urinary symptoms such as increased frequency of urinatio n or burning or urgency? Do you have any history of kidney stones? Does position such as sitting make it worse? My initial impression based on the sound of your history strikes me as likely a spine related problem... If this was the case then it may hurt to sit or move a certain way such as to twist at the waist. If a kidney stone or kidney infection then these causes would not be affected by position as much. Other causes are certainly possible... Let me know further details as these may be helpful. I hope that our interaction is helpful to you. Let me know if you have further questions or discussion. If my responses have been helpful at the conclusion of our interaction then please remember to leave positive feedback. That would be much appreciated. Thank you and best regards, Anthony Bray MD

Thank you for your quick response Dr. Bray. There are a few things that make it worse. Particularly when I bend down a lot. For example, I was sitting on the floor today bending over for an extended period of time while trimming my dog's hair. I had the sharp pain in the low back right side, almost burning spot pain. The right "front" side below my rib also hurt. No increased pain when I sit down but I do feel the constant pain and it does hurt when I lean toward the left while sitting or standing. Earlier in the past 30 days when I first noticed the pain, I suspected I was experiencing the onset of bladder infection as my urine was unusually warm and I urinated more often than norm but not to the extent of nothing coming out. I tried to keep myself hydrated and it seemed to work; I seem to recall about 1 day where I didn't feel the pain in my side, but I once again am experiencing the "warmer" urine again. The worst pain experienced thus far was today after handling my dog as well as yesterday on a drive home from running errands. Admittedly, I don't know that I drink enough water in a day and I do have severe food sensitivities which I avoid most of the time but the pain experienced yesterday was about 30 minutes after eating chicken (a food I'm severely sensitive with but on rare occasion may eat out of desperation). No history of stones for me. And I only know of one time having UTI about 12 years ago but don't recall having pain like this.

Hello again, For the most part it sounds likely spinal or musculoskeletal in nature. It sounds that the prolonged bending over position as you worked with your dog made things worse. This makes me think that most likely that you would benefit to try an anti- inflammatory med such as Aleve. A topical product such as Aspercream . It does not sound likely to be a UTI but if the pain fails to improve over the next two weeks or if you have worsening or other concerning symptoms then I would suggest that you see your doctor about it. ( it is certainly very easy to quickly check the urine for infection) I would avoid heavy exercise or lifting heavy weights( over 20 pounds) for the next two weeks. Avoid extremely long walks or running or cycling for the next two weeks as well. Keep an eye on your symptoms. It does not sound GI to me.... I hope that this helps. Let me know if you have further questions or discussion. Best regards, Anthony Bray MD
